Downtown Revitalization

Current focus: Downtown planning and business support.

MEDC is working with Superior California Economic Development (SCED) and local partners to support downtown Alturas businesses, identify opportunities to reuse buildings, and encourage investment along Main Street.

The Downtown Revitalization Playbook project brings together information about downtown properties and practical tools for identifying opportunities and setting priorities. This work will help business owners, property owners, and community partners consider what is possible and what it would take to move a project forward. MEDC will help connect those opportunities with business assistance, qualified advisors, and potential funding resources.

This project is funded by a grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation through the California Finance Consortium.

Alturas Downtown Business Activation Pilot

Current stage: Preparing for launch.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved a Rural Business Development Grant to help MEDC support businesses and entrepreneurs in downtown Alturas.

Through the Alturas Downtown Business Activation Pilot, MEDC will work with Superior California Economic Development and other partners to help business owners, entrepreneurs, and property owners explore opportunities and address challenges. This includes connecting people with qualified business advisors and resources to help them understand their options and pursue their plans.

The project will build on the Downtown Revitalization Playbook and local property findings to identify promising opportunities for business growth and the use of vacant or underused buildings.

MEDC is preparing the project for launch. If you own a downtown business or property, are considering a downtown business, or have information about a potential opportunity, MEDC would like to hear from you.
